Behind Bars essays Capital punishment, better known as the death penalty, is a sentence for many of today ¡s murderers. The death penalty is the most effective way to punish a murderer spite the contradictions of life without parole. The death penalty also is fairer to the victims and their families. It is sometimes less expensive, and does not give the killer a second chance to be back out on the streets. To dispute contrary belief, there is not a very big risk of wrongful death. On the down side there are also morality and Christianity factor involved with the penalty. The death penalty is fairer to the victim and the families of the victim. In a homicide the right to live has been taken away by the murderer. No victim has ever said,  ¡kill me I want to die. ¡ Therefore, it is only proper and fair to the killer to have his life taken away also. Morality also plays a big part in the right of a murderer. Morality is defined as the principles of right and wrong. As human beings, we deserve the right praise of the good deeds accomplished and punishment for the wrong doings. Punishment can range from being yelled at to the death penalty depending on the seriousness of the crime. In the United States if one is sentenced to murder, he or she is actually getting off lighter than in other countries. There are five methods of execution used in the United States: lethal injection, electrocution, lethal gas, hanging, and the use of a firing squad. Lethal injection is when a criminal is given a lethal dose of an anesthetic. During this process the victim dies of respiratory and cardiac arrest while he or she is asleep.  ¡The second method used is electrocution. There is an initial blast of 2,300 volts lasting for eight seconds. Followed by a low-voltage jolt of 1000 volts for twenty-two seconds and finally a jolt of 2,300 volts for eight seconds.
